We directly source our bone & mother of pearl inlay pieces from artisans in the beautiful region of Rajasthan India. Rajasthan is famous for its magical temples and palaces as well as its vibrant and colourful culture. Sourcing these pieces directly from Rajasthan allows us to provide you with individual pieces that have their own story.
How Inlay Furniture and Homewares is Made
To create these beautiful pieces
of furniture delicately carved pieces of abalone shell and honourably sourced camel
and buffalo bone have been individually inlaid onto a wooden frame in an
elaborate pattern. Layers of coloured resin are then used to fill around the mosaic
Each piece is made by hand at every stage of the process and can take weeks. When one of the many religious festivals takes place, the craftsman return to their surrounding villages to celebrate with their families putting the workshop on hold! In between festivals they return to the workshops where they live and work 6 days a week.
Decorating with Bone & Mother of Pearl Inlay
Bone and mother of pearl inlay furniture fits perfectly into Moroccan, bohemian and Indian
inspired homes but its diverse appeal also makes it the perfect addition for a
French provincial setting, tribal or boho chic or a classic Hampton’s home. Our
advice is to keep the rest of the styling simple and let the Mother of Pearl
Alternatively an eclectic display or bright geometric cushions also team well with the bone & mother of pearl pieces. The possibilities are unlimited and you or your design consultant will enjoy bringing your own flavour to this style of furniture.
You can select any item to make your feature or add the finishing touch to your decor. From boxes and trays, wall crosses, mirrors and lamps to bedheads, bedside tables, side tables, coffee tables, entertainment units and cocktail cabinets to name but a few! The choice is as broad as the road to Udaipur!
Inspired by another ancient craft, an alternative to inlay is to cover the wooden item with embossed metal. The metal comes in nickel or antique gold and features intricate embossing in various patterns. You can also tailor these items to your required measurements and configuration. For timeless heirloom pieces that are truly different, you won’t be disappointed with this range. Take a look at some of the inspiring uses of embossed metal finish below.
