The Tamegroute Vase is made in a village in the south of Morocco called Tamegroute, which is is known for it's characteristic green pottery.
Just like the famous Zelliges of the Fes-potters the ancient techniques of this particular type of pottery give the green glaze it’s beautiful variations. The ancient glaze technique comprises silicon, manganese and copper, which, once baked in earth kilns, results in the striking green hue. There is an influence of the Fes potters and other craftsmen dating back to the 17th Century when they were invited to Tamegroute.
In the ovens the pieces are stacked together which causes little scars which in turn make each piece so unique. Each Vase is slightly different with its own imperfections.
