Bamileke tables are just such an item! In a fashion industry such as interior design, Bamileke tables stand out as truly timeless. They never go out of style and always look luxe and exotic.
Bamileke
tables are made by craftsmen from the Bamileke tribe in Cameroon, West Africa.
The tribesmen scout for a specific type of tree and then then cut and hollow them.
The resulting outer ring of timber is then carved by hand into an intricate
pattern, usually a cross hatch design and sometimes also floral, circles or
stars. Smaller trunks are used to create stools and side tables while the large
trunks are transformed into a magnificent coffee tables. The whole process of
identifying just the right trees and getting the final product to Australia can
take up to a year. Bamileke Tables really are a treasure and for that reason
they are a timeless investment piece.
Because Bamileke tables are all-natural timber with no chemical or artificial finishes,
they’re the perfect inclusion in a modern home. Whether your style is classical
or boho, Bamileke tables
can be styled to fit right in. They are often painted giving the white instant
appeal for coastal
homes and the black at place in tribal chic schemes.
In fact, most of our Tribal Chic wares bring nature and humanity into any décor scheme. Just a touch of Africa can easily be incorporated into many interiors schemes. The natural materials and traditional handiwork of these treasures is a lovely compliment and contrast to predominately-white and/or minimalistic décor, giving it life and warmth. In more colourful interiors they can add to the bohemian feel or provide accents to a more defined mood.
The effect of handcrafted and natural materials is to quietly inspires the soul and calms the spirit. With Bamileke tables, imperfections lend character and accentuate the fact that no piece is truly the same. At the same time, the wood material makes for a sturdy and strong table.
We love it when new shipments of new stock arrive! At this time the full complement
of sizes is available from 35cm diameter to 100cm diameter. They also come in
two heights with the 60cm tall option making fabulous occasional tables in bathrooms,
living rooms and bedrooms. Bear in mind that the larger the table the more rare
they are.
There are so many favourites in our Tribal Chic range. It’s hard to narrow them down to just a few. Certainly Bamileke tables and Malawi chairs are at the top. Other beauties include Tonga and Nupe Stools, intricate Ethiopian Crosses, striking Jola Horn Vases, Njamji Beaded Dolls and serenity inducing David Ballam prints to name but a few.
